We joined the Silverton CPA in April 2012. The main reason for this was that I frequently work away from home during the day and require protection for my wife. We have also had several burglaries into our motor vehicles at night.

In April 2012 our maid who had worked here for 20 years saw fit to leave all the security gates open and stand in the street talking to 3 SM. The one decided to jump over the palisade and enter the premises from the back.

A neighbour who was visiting heard a noise and thought it was the maid so she whistled for her. The intruder got a fright and ran back out into the street and when he again jumped over the palisade, the neighbourhood watch (Fanie 4) saw this and chased him. The maid and her two cohorts ran away while this was taking place.

The neighbourhood watch could not catch the intruder and damaged their vehicle which I had repaired as a token of gratitude.

SAPS (A.O. Visser) and Martie Engelbrecht visited our home and questioned the maid who said that she did not know the people involved and said that the intruder was armed and from SAPS, obviously not the case?

I was extremely upset that she had breached our security and allowed the intruder into our yard without raising the alarm. She said that she did not want to work here anymore and left.

We joined the Silverton CPA where I perform Controller duties on Friday evenings.

A major advantage is the two way radio communication and quick response from members and patrollers should anything untoward occur.

Another is the fact that SAPS (Silverton & 10111) recognise the CPA / CPF and respond to calls for assistance.

Another is the feeling of friendliness / camaraderie amongst members who are willing to assist should anything go wrong anytime of the night.
